A Coruna is set to welcome a record-breaking 150 calls this year. Cruise traffic to the Atlantic coast port has grown substantially over the last 10 years.

The latest company to join the list of visitors is Virgin Voyages, which chose A Coruna as the first port of call in Spain for the maiden voyage of Valiant Lady. Docking at Transatlantic Quay on March 23, she returns on May 4.

During the ship’s inaugural call to the city, Martin Fernandez Prado, president Port Authority of A Coruna, expressed his satisfaction at welcoming the ship on its first call to a Spanish port, further proof of the city’s leading position within the cruise industry in northwest Spain.

Its most recent record in number of moorings was 120, registered in 2017. Following the interruption to cruiseship traffic due to the COVID-19 health emergency, the port is now back with renewed force and enthusiasm.

It is getting ready for one of its busiest periods of the year, with 40 calls scheduled between April and May, including four triple calls. “These forecasts are a source of immense satisfaction for the city, in addition to the estimated economic return of €15 million, especially in sectors related to tourism, catering and the retail trade,” Prado comments.

The mild climate, natural landscapes, architectural heritage, gastronomy and leisure and cultural options, as well as the proximity of the Transatlantic Quay to the city centre via a large pedestrian esplanade, are valued by passengers, who rate this destination highly on satisfaction surveys.
