Portsmouth assists Viking

Portsmouth International Port has been providing a helping hand for Viking Ocean Cruises with the repatriation of crew from Viking Sea which arrived on 6 April and left two days later.

Viking Sun, Viking Sky and Viking Jupiter are all scheduled to call over the next fortnight to permit crew repatriation and also take on stores prior to laying over in Kristiansund, Norway.

The port is currently closed to the public, and strict social distancing rules have been enforced across the whole site. The port continues to operate as a critical route for essential freight services, transporting fresh produce, cleaning products and vital medical supplies. Freight-only ferry operations are ongoing, and cruiseships still have allowed access into the port.

Construction works on the berth extension is continuing, whilst overcoming supplier and resource deficiencies, and conforming to key worker and social distancing guidance. The project is set to be completed in early May, and will allow for larger ships and vessels to dock and keep vital goods and services moving.
