All seven berths at the passenger port have connections to a wastewater pipeline with a capacity of 100m3 per hour. It takes minutes for cruiseships to be connected to the system according to Alexsey Sukhotskiy, department of external relations Passenger port of Saint-Petersburg Marine Facade.

The wastewater goes to a city central sewage system where it goes through multiple stages of purification, he explained. A special fee is charged by the port operator which, for 2017, is $30 (€28.24) per cubic metre.

Sukhotskiy commented: “According to the feedback received from the cruiselines the port’s PRF are adequate and have enough capacity even for the biggest ships."
