The expected growth in the number of cruiselines visiting Roenne in 2018 is estimated at being 45 % up on 2017. This development is expected to continue due to the port extending its facilities to accommodate ships up to 350m in length from June 1 2019.

On announcing the first phase of development in mid-October, the port “put some turbo on the strategic work at the Cruise Bornholm Network” explained Pernille Kofod Lydolph, ceo Destination Bornholm, which operates and facilitates the development of the Cruise Bornholm Network, a local cooperative of companies and organisations. “This means that we are already in dialogue with the local cultural institutions and companies regarding infrastructure and the quality upgrading of the guides.”

The port attended a cruise conference organised by the Cruise Lines International Association in London in February. "It was a great pleasure for us to find out that the shipping companies already know our beautiful island, Bornholm, and the many possibilities we have as a destination. The fact that we, already in June 2019, are ready to receive the big vessels - up to approximately 350 meters - has certainly been an eye-opener for many. Now we have what it takes to provide customers with a good experience on all parameters,” said Thomas Bendtsen, ceo Port of Roenne.

Calls to Roenne numbered 18 in 2015 bringing 7,885 passengers. Last year there were 26 calls and 12,441 passengers rising to an estimated 47 and 22,374 respectively this year.
