Denholm Wilhelmsen Ltd (DWL) is part of the J & J Denholm Group which has recently celebrated it's 150th anniversary. The group has four main business streams: shipping, logistics, seafoods and industrial services.

The logistics division incorporates five different companies including DWL which has the full range of these services at its disposal, ie freight forwarding (including airfreight); road transport (Denholm owns over a 100 trucks); warehousing (various sites around the country); and short sea shipping. In Ireland, the logistics division also operate as a stevedoring company. This allows DWL to maintain quality and price control by sourcing from within the group.

DWL is agent for all types of shipping but have steadily grown the niche cruise sector over the last 25 years. “A major factor has been our very experienced staff operating through a network of offices around the country. With 17 offices in the UK located in all major ports, our principals can be assured of a seamless and personalised service from our agency teams, said Peter Knight, director DWL. Furthermore, sister company Hamilton Shipping has a similar network of offices in Ireland, giving DWL comprehensive cover of all the British Isles.

“We are proud to represent several different cruiselines in the UK, across the broad spectrum of different ship sizes and types. From superyachts and expeditionary vessels, through to the largest megaships on the seas, DWL has the experience to provide any port agency solution.”

Clients include Holland America Group, Carnival Maritime, Cruise & Maritime Voyages, Viking Ocean Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Crystal Cruises, MSC Cruises, TUI Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Windstar Cruises and the recent appointments of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

DWL is involved in calls of all descriptions, including many one-off showcases and naming events. Most notably is the London Olympics which involved having three cruiseships and five superyachts moored at the Royal Docks and West India Docks for a period of three to four weeks. Knight concluded: “Port agency always springs up new surprises, but we are well placed to meet any new challenges.”
