Ocean Princess (pictured) is becoming a regular visitor to Milford Haven following positive feedback. The Welsh port received the highest Princess Cruises’ passenger satisfaction rate (88%) in the UK in 2013 which resulted in further calls booked for this year and next.

Also in 2014 were two inaugural calls on the same day in September when Dolphin and Insignia called. Also calling were Boudicca, Silver Explorer, Prinsendam, Voyager and Deutschland.

With eight calls this year and the same next, the Welsh port is developing its offering. Most of the calls are by tender but whether at the quay or tender pier there is always a meet and greet party with the mayor in attendance. A harpist plays on board and a bird of prey and classic car are part of the welcome. A timetable of these events is given to the ship so that passengers can plan their visits.

The most popular shore excursions are to St David’s Cathedral, Tenby and Caldey Island, and Pembrook and Carew castles. For independents there is a hop on hop off shuttle bus into town with maps available as well as audio trails in different languages.

In the Port of Milford Haven’s business review 2013, reference is made to the Milford Dock Master Plan which makes provision for an upgraded passenger reception facility. Also additional tourist attractions at Milford Marina which will “provide more opportunities for the increasing number of passengers who want to independently enjoy the local area during their time ashore”.
