Lisbon Cruise Terminals, a company established under the Portuguese law by a consortium, begins running the terminal on August 26 for a period of 35 years until 2049.

The Port Authority of Lisbon and the consortium - Global Liman Isletmeleri, Grupo Sousa – Investimentos SGPS, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and Creuers del Port de Barcelona - signed the public service concession contract for the cruise activity of the Lisbon Cruise Terminal on July 17 (see photograph).

The contract includes the construction of a new cruise terminal based on current cruise traffic of more than 550,000 passengers with the estimation that in the next 10 years this could exceed 750,000, rising to a possible 1.5m by the end of the concession.

Construction of the terminal building as well as improvements to the surrounding area, including infrastructure, will cost about E23m and will be supported by the concession holder. The whole project will contribute to the consolidation of tourist attractions in the city, the region and the country.
