On June 18 Leixoes welcomed TUI Cruises for the first time when newbuild Mein Schiff 3 called having set off on her maiden voyage from Hamburg on June 13.
Also on the itinerary were Le Havre (France), La Coruna (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Cadiz (Spain) and Palma de Mallorca.
The port authority prepared a special programme of welcome including escort tugs spewing water cascades on the ship’s arrival at 0900. All passengers and crew were welcomed with traditional Portuguese dances, a port wine tasting and souvenirs. Meanwhile, a plaque exchange ceremony took place on board.
Mein Schiff 3 was delivered from the STX Finland Turku shipyard on May 22. She measures 295m in length and 35.8m in width. The depth to keel below the surface is 8m and gross tonnage is 99,700. The vessel can accommodate 2,506 passengers and has about 1,000 crew.
