Kristiansand opts for a new pier

A decision has been taken to build a new pier in Kristiansand closer to the city centre. Although undecided as to the exact length of pier 22 (close to Agder quay/pier 21) it is likely to be close to 420m with a depth of 14m. The aim is to have this completed by May of 2017. In the meantime the present 318m-long pier will continue as it is.

The new multipurpose pier will be dedicated to cruiseships during the summer season when the container ships will call at alternative quays. Security for the cruiseships will be on the west part of the pier opposite the Kilden concert hall.

Seismic exploration has been completed. Black and grey water facilities will be provided at the pier but not cold ironing despite it being already available in the port. Plans are underway to build a small terminal with rest rooms, security and some seating.
