Amsterdam is looking forward to a busy December. No less than 11 ships will visit the city giving passengers the opportunity of experiencing the Amsterdam Light Festival (November 27 2014 to January 18 2015).

For the third time, the historic centre of city will be the atmospheric backdrop for this international festival which includes various sculptures, projections and installations by contemporary artists. This year’s theme is ‘A Bright City’ with artists challenged to bring to life the metropolis. The route, Watercolors, takes you along the canals and the Amstel which are illuminated by art. The trail, Illuminade, runs through the centre of Amsterdam. The rest of the city is dominated by light: there are plenty of museums that participate in the festival and perform all kinds of activities the visitor in the innovation of light art.

The previous December record was set in 2009 with seven calls. This year calls will include Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, Artania, Marco Polo and Oceana, Adonia and Boudicca.

This summer Celebrity Constellation made her 63rd and last call to Amsterdam, bringing a total of 290,000 passengers and crew to the city since 2006. Passengers attended a ‘reverse Plaque and Key ceremony’ on board and at about 1630, the port choir, a water salute, hundreds of blue and white balloons, officials and terminal crew waved the ship a ‘bon voyage’.
