A E50m archaeology museum Moesgaard is due to open in Aarhus, Denmark, in autumn this year. It is designed by Henning Larsen who also designed the Danish Opera House. A further E10m is being invested in the Old Town museum and E265m in a new culture house.

A further E66m is being invested in the city which will be the European capital of culture in 2017, having ‘Rethink’ as its theme. Cultural offers will number about 18,000 large and small in the city and region during the year.

Each year the city hosts four festivals, the classic race in May, the jazz festival and the Viking Moot at Moesgaard Beach in July and the Aarhus festival at the end of August.

A new guide training course is beginning this season and the number of guides is on the increase with 100 the target for next year from 30 in 2012.

The USA accounts for 41% of passengers, Canada 12%, the UK 11%, Germany 6%, Norway and Mexico 4% each and Australia 3%. In a survey of 1,141 passengers the highest scoring attributes were shore excursion and guide, shoreside welcome, friendliness of the residents and courtesy of store employees.

The average passenger spend on a transit call is E79.01 with shore excursions accounting for E50.29.
