Tallinn museums are welcoming cruise tourists

Six museums in Tallinn established a joint Museum Gate in the cruise terminal to encourage foreign visitors to get to know Estonian culture.

The initiative includes the Estonian History Museum, the Tallinn City Museum, the Art Museum of Estonia, the Estonian Maritime Museum, Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom, and the Estonian Open Air Museum. Alongside the museums, all visitors have a chance to visit 16 cultural points of interest.

‘Tourists who travel to destinations by the Baltic Sea are usually very interested in culture and history,’ said Sirle Arro, Head of Marketing of the Port of Tallinn. ‘Therefore, the Port of Tallinn is excited to offer an opportunity to cruise tourists who arrive in Tallinn to obtain information on the fascinating museums of our capital at the cruise area, at a close proximity to the ships’.

According to Eero Rang, guide of the Estonian Maritime Museum, the common name alone intrigues the visitors – the Museum Gate. ‘Such joint statements build trust in visitors. They appreciate this unified city map of the museums. Some visitors even have previous knowledge on our museums and some already noticed the iconic icebreaker Suur Tõll from the sea,’ said Rang. According to the guide, Estonia is visited by more young people this year.
