Seaport The Hague-Scheveningen shows support to anchored cruise ships

Since mid-May, three cruise ships have been anchored off the coast of Scheveningen. The Nieuw Statendam, the Zaandam of the Holland America Line and the ultra-luxury Seabourn Ovation. After an intensive repatriation in which many crew members have been brought home, the ships are now waiting to start sailing again. The crew is subject to strict COVID-19 measures and is not allowed to disembark. To support the crews left behind on the ships, Anita Verwoest (Project Director), Suzanne Fillekes (Director Shore Excursions) and harbourmaster Cees Duvekot on behalf of the Seaport The Hague-Scheveningen sailed along to bring Hague delicacies and various goodies . Hopjes from The Hague, herring from Scheveningen, Delft blue coffee mugs and delicious stroopwafels in a tin with an image of The Girl with a Pearl Earring have been handed over to the captain and his crew.
"If the crew cannot come to us, we will go to them," said Anita Verwoest. “We want to let the crew know we are thinking of them and wish them lots of strength in this difficult time. We hope that you can sail again soon and of course we hope to welcome you and your guests back to our Royal City by the Sea in the near future ”.
