On 7 January, AIDAnova called at Cherbourg, providing an excellent opportunity to host our annual cruise stakeholders’ meeting on board the vessel. This exceptional setting enabled open, high-quality exchanges and further strengthened the relationship between AIDA Cruises and the Port of Cherbourg.

Our sincere thanks go to Richard Cooke and Sandra Neffgen (AIDA Cruises) for the excellent organisation of the event and for facilitating constructive discussions, which attracted strong interest from the local stakeholder community - particularly around AIDA Cruises’ sustainability initiatives.

The cruise industry continues to move towards greener and cleaner operations, supported by committed partners such as AIDA Cruises. With Onshore Power Supply (OPS) scheduled to be available in Cherbourg from 2028, our shared sustainability ambitions will be further reinforced.

This collaboration is fully aligned with the Green Destinations certification awarded to the Cotentin region in December 2025, reflecting a common strategy for responsible and future-focused cruise development.

Port of Cherbourg Unveils Exciting New Developments
Welcome to the Spring Update for the Port of Cherbourg and the Cotentin Peninsula, shedding light on the newest plans, ideas, and events in and around Cherbourg and the wider Normandy region. In port news - the new and improved access to the city centre is nearly complete, a more efficient and environmentally friendly shuttle bus service will soon be available, and the countdown to shoreside power availability has started! OPS is scheduled to be available at the Cherbourg cruise and ferry terminals in 2026. Meanwhile, 2024 is expected to be another significant year for the popular French port, with passenger numbers expected to reach yet another record high. In 2023, the Port of Cherbourg welcomed over 100,000 passengers for the first time, and in 2024, this number is set to reach 120,000. Throughout 2024, the port will welcome 59 cruise ship arrivals, with 12 visits from AIDA, 10 from MSC, and 10 from P&O - making up the anticipated total of 120,000 passengers. The beautiful Seabourn Ovation will call at the port on June 5th, 6th, and 7th as part of the National WWII Museum's 80th anniversary D-Day memorial charter cruise. Ovation's call coincides with the D-Day Festival Normandy which covers the entire coastline of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy - from Pegasus Bridge to Sainte-Mère-Eglise, including Ouistreham, Arromanches, Pointe du Hoc, and, of course, the five iconic sectors of Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach. Activities include parachuting, parades, concerts, historical re-enactments, fireworks, exhibitions, and projections. The festival hosts over 100 events and promises to be bigger and better than ever in 2024! “Plans are also in motion to organise a familiarisation (FAM) trip to the Cotentin Peninsula and the Normandy Region," says Julien Bougon, Cherbourg Cruise Manager. Speaking about the region, Bougon adds, "the Cotentin Peninsula is rich with undiscovered shore excursion opportunities. It will be our pleasure to collaborate with our partners and colleagues to explore new locations, exchange ideas, and offer valuable insights into the region's attractions for cruise lines and their passengers." Bougon also reveals, "In 2027, the region will commemorate the 1000th anniversary of William the Conqueror's birth. Plans are already underway to curate an impressive programme of events spanning the wider Normandy region. These events are expected to captivate cruise passengers of all ages." Concluding his statement, Bougon emphasises, "There really is a lot going on at Cherbourg, and I look forward to meeting those interested in learning more about our port, region, and opportunities available during Seatrade Global." Cherbourg Cruise will be exhibiting alongside our colleagues at the French Atlantic Ports stand #1815 (with Cruise Europe). Cherbourg Cruise Club – 2017 season and 2018 perspectives
2017 cruise season was highly dynamic for the Port of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, and a record year, with 35 calls, 65 716 cruise guests and 26 892 crew members welcomed. 8 maiden calls (Britannia, Viking Star, Monarch, Silver Explorer, Star Pride, Clio, Aurora, Navigator of the Seas), 3 double calls and 5 unexpected calls took place this year. This year, 13 439 guests opted for half-day and full-day shore excursions. The most remarkable event of the year was the call of the Queen Mary 2 on the occasion of the transatlantic race ‘The Bridge 2017’, around 1700 passengers embarked from the very mythic transatlantic cruise terminal, as it was initially designed. 2018 program promises to be another fantastic season with 37 calls and over than 60.000 guests. 9 maiden calls and the very expected return of the Disney Magic on July 28th. Major event of the year, Cherbourg Cruise Terminal will be fitted with a new air bridge gangway, in the first semester of the year!
