The Port of Roenne together with Destination Bornholm has been working closely to strengthen the island’s profile as a cruise destination. Due to the strong local network, steady port expansion and favourable geographical location, Bornholm will welcome a record number of 90 calls this year, including 20 maiden calls.

As well as being on the itinerary of Phoenix Reisen’s Hamburg this season, the port welcomed its largest cruiseship to call so far, MSC Preziosa, on a maiden call on May 4. Others included Oceania Cruises’ Insignia, Viking Venus and Ponant’s Le Champlain.

Bornholm is situated in the Baltic Sea, 100nm east of Copenhagen, between Sweden and Poland, with rich history and unspoiled nature. Steep cliffs in the North and sandy beaches in the South, idyllic towns and charming fishing hamlets can be explored even on shorter calls. Bornholm is a stronghold for arts and craft makers, particularly in handmade glass and ceramics.

As a pioneer region within sustainable Danish food products, passengers are able to taste the flavours of Bornholm, whether in a Michelin-starred restaurant or food markets. Once a lucrative fishing island, Bornholm is still dotted with pyramid-shaped herring smokehouses. Just as iconic are the snowy-white round churches which served as fortresses at one point. Hammershus, the largest castle ruin of its kind in Northern Europe, stands on a cliff 74m above sea level.
