Successful restart to cruising at Lerwick

Careful planning by stakeholders has ensured a smooth season of cruise visits at Lerwick, Shetland.

Noble Caledonia’s Island Sky was the first cruiseship to call into a Scottish port in 17 months, following the Scottish government's same-day lifting of a Covid-19-related voluntary suspension of visits.

Nineteen calls are expected by the end of the season in late-September, including six maiden visits and several first-time operators into Lerwick. Expectations in a normal year would have topped 100 vessels. There are strong bookings for 2022.

The Scottish government has now lifted restrictions on international sailings and the resumption of this activity at Scottish ports is an important next step for the industry.
