Bordeaux and CroisiEurope support healthcare workers

CroisiEurope and its local partners Cruise Bordeaux, the port of Bordeaux, the city of Bordeaux, together with the Regional Health Agency have set up an accommodation solution for healthcare workers from Bordeaux hospitals.

The Covid-19 crisis means that many health care professionals are isolating themselves from their families as a safety precaution and some of them also need to live closer to their work place. In Bordeaux, as in many ports and countries worldwide, cruise activity is on hold and the cruise ships are empty.

This is why CroisiEurope and local stakeholders decided to show their solidarity and offer health workers free accommodation on board MS Cyrano de Bergerac in Bordeaux since April 10. The goal is to allow doctors, nurses or caregivers to have a comfortable and easily accessible ‘alternative home’ during the coronavirus crisis.

CroisiEurope is a French company with headquarters in Strasbourg, one of the regions that has been very strongly impacted by Covid-19. From the very beginning of the crisis, the family-owned company has shown a great solidarity with hospital staff. They have developed a similar offer on the Seine river in Paris on board MS Botticelli.

Docked on the Garonne river in the centre of Bordeaux, 110m-long Cyrano de Bergerac has 87 cabins (pictured). During this pandemic period a maximum of 25 people can be accommodated in order to strictly apply social distancing.

The ship can easily be reached by tramway, and health workers have also been offered a free car park nearby. They can access the ship 24/24 and breakfast is included. Of course everything is free of charge for them.

This initiative was organised from all the different stakeholders’ ‘home’ offices in Bordeaux and also in Lyon and Strasbourg, where some the CroisiEurope team is located, in close relationship with the health authorities and local hospitals. It is a good example of how creative and resilient the cruise family is in these difficult times.
