Skagen is expecting 44 calls carrying up to 73,000 passengers this year, an increase of almost 10,000 compared to 2018.

The ships calling in 2019 are generally larger than the previous seasons. Nine ships will be making first calls, including those from Marella Cruises, Cruise & Maritime Voyages, Saga Cruises, Phoenix Reisen and Viking Cruises.

Cruise Skagen Denmark, formed to promote Skagen as a cruise destination, celebrates 20 years this year. “We are very grateful and proud of what we have achieved so far, especially since the new cruise facilities were completed in 2015,” commented Willy B Hansen, ceo Port of Skagen.

“We are always working on developing our product and the next port development project meant for fisheries will also benefit the cruise vessels as approach conditions will be improved significantly.”

The Port of Skagen has recently received the results of a Passenger and Crew Survey made by GP Wild (International) during 10 cruise calls at Skagen in 2018. The results show that 69% of the guests were either very or extremely satisfied with all aspects of their visit to Skagen.

On a scale from 1-5 with 5 being the best the Skagen guides scored 4.5, friendliness of locals, courtesy of store employees and onshore welcome all scored 4.4 and overall tours scored 4.3.

The total expenditures by passengers and crew visiting Skagen in 2018 amounted to approximately DKr35 million(€4.7m).
