Figures show a significant growth in the number of cruiselines visiting Ronne this year compared to last. In 2019 the trend is set to continue with an estimated 50% growth in passenger numbers to 30,000 on 46 calls.

“Last year we had 26 cruise calls and about 12,500 guests. This year we land on 42 calls and approximately 19,000 guests, a significant improvement," said Niels Lundberg, cruise manager Port of Ronne.

Ronne is in the process of a port expansion, which will enable better conditions for receiving the very large cruise vessels on the market from next summer.

On June 1 2019, a new 300m multipurpose quay will be ready to receive ships up to 350m in length. “Estimated figures indicate that we expect the same number of calls as this year, but significantly larger vessels. Therefore we expect an increased number of guests," said Lundberg.

Thomas Bendtsen, ceo Port of Ronne, commented: “We are pleased to see the positive development that the harbour is undergoing. When we build a new port that provides better manoeuvrability for the large vessels, increases the water depth to 11m and builds a 1,160m-long breakwater, it is in order to provide a good service to our customers.

“The cruise sector is a growing market, and I am therefore pleased to see that growth now also seems to have an effect on Bornholm, our port and all the unique attractions the island has to offer.”
