The Port Authority of Santander, Santander City Council and Cantur Tourism of Cantabria came together for the Santander Cruise Forum 2018 in June at the Botin Centre. The aim being to further promote the destination which has witnessed a sixfold increase in passengers in nine years.
In addition local actors were being prepared to welcome the 24 calls booked next year, up from 13 this year.
Networking was encouraged between private companies, Santander shopkeepers, local tour and transportation operators, regional and local authorities and invited guests which included Alfredo Serrano, director CLIA Spain and cruise executives from companies such as MSC Cruises, Cunard Line, Costa Cruises and Pullmantur. A round table was held where opportunities and the needs of Cantabria and Santander as a cruise destination were discussed.
The main conclusions drawn from this forum were that cooperation between all public administrations and the business sector is essential for the development of the segment in Santander in addition to evaluating the correct sizing of infrastructures.
