The Port of Ronne on the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea continues to increase its calls year on year.
In August Niels Lundberg, cruise manager, commented that calls numbered 30 which is four more than the same time last year with the season ongoing to October and more calls to come.
In 2019, the port is estimating an increase in the number of passengers of about 50%. This is because the port will be able to accommodate far larger cruise vessels as a result of the current port expansion.
Lundberg continued: “Last year we had 26 calls and about 12,500 guests. But this year we expect 43 calls and approximately 20,000 guests.”
“On June 1 2019 our new 300m multipurpose quay will be ready to receive larger cruise vessels, up to 350m. This means that we estimate 46 calls and approximately 30,000 guests. Estimated figures indicate that we expect approximately the same number of calls, but significantly larger ships, which can be seen in the number of guests.
“Therefore, we are also working closely with Destination Bornholm and are active in the Cruise Bornholm Network because we would like to be well equipped when the larger groups of guests arrive.”
Thomas Bendtsen, ceo Port of Ronne, commented that these results indicate that the business strategy that was laid out from an early stage seems to be the right one. “It is, of course, a pleasure to see that the strategic initiatives, our organisational turnaround, the reality of our port expansion and a great deal of effort from the management and organisation side have now begun to show. We have always seen a great potential in the cruise market and now we see a gradual progress.”
