In June Dover Cruise hosted 11 calls including a double call when Saga Sapphire and Saga Pearl II berthed together early in the month.

Port of Dover head of cruise, Sonia Limbrick, said: “June has been another successful month at Dover Cruise and I would like to thank all of the cruiselines that visited us this month for their continued support.”

In July, the UK port hosted 19 calls. When 2, 850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse made her inaugural call to Dover, she played host to the quarterly meeting of CruiseBritain. Dover Cruise took the opportunity to treat the delegates to a taste of the city’s delights.

Kay Greenway of CruiseBritain said: “It was a privilege to hold our meeting on board this beautiful vessel and our thanks go to Stuart Leven and Lotfi Trabelsi of Royal Caribbean International. It was also a marvellous opportunity to visit the Port of Dover and hear first-hand of the exciting Western Docks revival plans.”

The plans include a transformed waterfront with a new marina pier and curve to attract a host of shops, bars cafes and restaurants with Dover's unique backdrop of the harbour, cliffs and castle. Also on the agenda is the relocation and further development of Dover's cargo business with a new cargo terminal and distribution centre. This will create greater space within the Eastern Docks for ferry traffic and much needed high quality employment opportunities for local people.
