Destination Information
Seyðisfjörður Harbour offers an ideal destination for cruise ships.
The peaceful village, shaped by Norwegian entrepreneurs over a century ago, lies sheltered by dramatic, snow-flecked mountains.
The colorful Norwegian-style wooden houses make this village unique in Iceland. Walking trails around town, along the coast, or by the Fjardará River provide many pleasurable and relaxing experiences. Seyðisfjörður stands out for its close proximity to wild nature—some might even consider it on the verge of the uninhabitable. The harsh climate has shaped the resilience of those living here. Seyðisfjörður is home to approximately 700 residents, who have traditionally made their living from fishing. In recent years, however, tourism and culture has been growing rapidly.
In 2020, a turning point occurred when Seyðisfjörður merged with three other towns in East Iceland (Egilsstaðir, Djúpivogur and Borgarfjorður) under the name Múlaþing.
