GEIRANGERFJORD – wild and beautiful – the epitome of a Norwegian Fjord, with its characteristic S-shape, towering majestic mountains, rushing waterfalls, and tiny farms clinging to rocky ledges. Tourists have been overwhelmed by the beauty of this region since the arrival of the first cruiseship in 1869. No wonder, for it is here in the friendliest surroundings that the most magnificent scenery imaginable is found. In Geiranger, you will quite literally become part of nature together with the people living here for hundreds of years.
The scenery is the main attraction of this area, and can best be seen on a tour or excursion. A large number of different excursions starting or ending in Geiranger and/or Hellesylt are offered, many of them on coaches and escorted by well-qualified local guides. Examples include:

The sailing up or out from this World heritage fjord, is the highlight of a cruise in the Nordic waters.
The Geirangerfjord is now visited by a large number of cruise ships of all different sizes - from exclusive yachts to the world’s largest cruiseliners. The cruise season is May to September.
The village of Geiranger has approximately 220 inhabitants and offers a high level of service for all visitors. The port itself is well sheltered, located in the natural bay of the fjord. The pilot station is Ålesund (approximately 70 miles) and the depths of the anchorage positions are 40- 60m. Distances for tendering are about 200– 1,000m. Three ‘pollerts’ and serviceboats are available for mooring in different anchor positions. The jetty with four pontoons is located in the centre of the village of Geiranger and Hellesylt has two pontoons. There’s a short walking distance for excursion buses as well as a shopping area.
New cruisefacilities in Stranda and Hellesylt will be operative for the season 2011.
