Cruise ships call in Douglas, capital city of the Isle of Man. The city centre is within walking distance from the port. Tourist information and taxis are available from the Sea Terminal which has a Coffee outlet, a WTM and free Wi-Fi. The Island is situated in the middle of the Irish Sea it offers visitors a mixture of steep hills, lush valleys, green pastures, views of the omnipresent sea – and roaring motorcycles.

Motorcycles, of course, are associated with the first two weeks in June, when the Isle of Man TT race is held.

The island’s total population is around 80000. Key economic sectors include tourism, manufacturing and offshore banking. The island is becoming a centre for film making, with 96 TV and film productions produced to date .

Isle of Man awaits seven inaugural calls

Seven out of 15 calls to the Isle of Man this year are first timers to the island. For 2013 there are already 13 calls booked, again with many inaugural visits.

“Marina [Oceania Cruises] came in twice last year and I think this really turned a corner for us. It was highly successful in terms of disembarkation,” said Terry Toohey, cruise consultant Isle of Man Tourism. “Up until now we had not had Regent Seven Seas Cruises come in but now Seven Seas Voyager is booked.” Oceania Cruises is also bringing Nautica to the port.

Our unique vintage transport system

There are three different railways: the steam railway travels south from Douglas, and the electric railway goes north. There is a mountain railway, connecting Laxey to the summit of Snaefell.
