Hammerfest

Hammerfest

The largest port in Finnmark is located in the fairway, and has a unique location regarding both petroleum activity and fishing recources in the Barents Sea.

The port of Hammerfest has experienced a huge process of change in recent years, from being a large regional fishing and cargo port to becoming a large petroleum and fishing port by national levels.

In the course of 2008 both the European and American markets will be supplied by LNG from the Snøhvit-field, shipped via the LNG terminal at Melkøya in the port of Hammerfest.

The Goliath oilfield was found commercially exploitable in 2006 and is expected to be developed as soon as extraction license has been issued.

The development on the petroleum side has resulted in establishing of sevice enterprices which again develop the machinery of service directed towards the national and international fishing fleet operating in the Barents Sea.
