Environmental issues constitute an important foundation for the activities and the port are convinced to contribute to a long term sustainable development by an integrated and proactive environmental work to achieve a minimum of negative environmental impact.

Volvo Museum benefits from passengers to Gothenburg

In 2011 more than 67,000 visitors found their way to the Volvo Museum in Arendal just outside Gothenburg, Sweden, which is a 22% increase on 2010.

“One reason behind the new record is that we are drawing a large number of cruiseship passengers,” says Sten-Ake Lyngstam, head of the museum.

 The museum is benefiting from the bigger ships that are too big to dock in the heart of the city but tie up instead some 50m from the museum. A tour through Volvo history has become the first stop for many of the passengers who come mostly from the US, UK and Germany.

Gothenburg’s co-operation responsible for call numbers rising from five to 62 calls in a decade

In 2002 Gothenburg received 5 calls and 2,400 passengers. Ten years later, in 2012, the Swedish port is expecting 62 calls and 70,000 passengers.

Jill Sodervall, head of cruise operations at the Gothenburg Port Authority, commented: “The increase is largely as a result of focused collaboration between the Port of Gothenburg and Goteborg & Co.
