The activities of the port of Antwerp are generally associated with goods, transport and high economic performances, but we deliver more that. In the historical port area you will find marinas, both on the left and right bank of the river, offering facilities for a wide range of water-based leisure interests. The main activity on the Scheldt quays since 1996 is cruise related, and the investments in the terminal and facilities make Antwerp a fully-operational cruise destination.

Antwerp is the second-largest port in Europe and the regeneration of the historical docks area affords the visitor a view of a truly trendy city: stylish architecture blends with bars and restaurants in the old town. Cobbled streets wind along the historical city center as the sightseeing riches from the Golden Age are within walking distance of the berth. Ships visiting Antwerp are getting bigger

Antwerp began the season on March 28 with the arrival of AIDA Cruises’ AIDAluna. The Belgian port is expecting 40,000 passengers this year on 29 calls compared to 35,000 on 30 calls in 2011.

There will be six ships calling for the first time this year, including MSC Cruises’ MSC Lirica, Windstar Cruises' Wind Surf, Star Clippers’ Star Flyer and Phoenix Reisen’s Amadea and Albatros. There will also be repeaters, such as AIDA Cruises, which has chosen to call the Belgian port for more than three years, according to Kattina Glasinovich, cruise manager Antwerp Cruise Port.

Attraction & Excursions

Rubens House

The house where the master lived and worked reveals the grandeur of the painter. It's an Italianate palazzo, audaciously avant-garde in Rubens' age.

Museum Plantin-Moretus

The museum preserves typographic material and an impressive graphic collection. In 2005 the museum was recognised as UNESCO world heritage.

Diamond Museum

The story of diamonds in the city is told in sparkling detail in the Diamond Museum. Since the 15th century diamonds have been in Antwerp and have contributed to its economic success.

Red Star Line

Between 1873 and 1935 the Red Star Line shipping company transported almost three million people from Antwerp to America and Canada. The Red Star Line buildings are located in Antwerp on the Scheldt.
