Eidfjord

Eidfjord is situated at the end of the second longest fjord in Norway; the Hardangerfjord. Due to the mild climate, the Hardangerfjord region is called Fjord Norway’s orchard, where apples, plums, pears and cherries are grown. The blossom season in May and June is unique, with fruit trees on the mountainside and down to the blue fjord covered by white, pink and red flowers.

Eidfjord Cruise Port is located in the centre of Eidfjord. The Cruise port has specially been made for cruise ships, and offers the very best and safest conditions. Eidfjord has a population of around 960 and is a thriving community and enjoy the fjord and mountains throughout the year. The visitors also find peace and quiet in the natural environment, in addition to visiting many of Eidfjords attractions. Vøringsfossen waterfall has for a long time been Norway’s most visited natural attraction. The Hardangervidda mountain plateau and the Hardangerfjord are well-known far beyond Norway’s borders.

Sima Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the biggest powerplants in Europe, and because of this plant, a road has been built up to the wellknown Kjeåsen farm. This farm lies like an eagles nest in a very steep mountainside 530m above the Simadalsfjord.

Sysendammen is one of Norway’s largest stonefilled dams, offering a nice view to Norway’s sixth largest glacier, the Hardangerjøkulen.

Eidfjord Old Church, a stone church from 1309, is a Jacobs’ church. They also have western Norway’s largest burial mounds from the Iron Age and Viking periods.

The Hardangervidda Nature Centre Eidfjord is a modern and exciting nature and culturalhistorical experience centre within Norwegian culture, climate and environment. Here you'll also find a souvenir shop and a restaurant.

The Troll Train takes you for an hour sightseeing tour in the centre of Eidfjord. Experience spectacular views of the fjord and the mountains, plus a visit to the Viking burial mound and the old mideaval stone church.

FlatEarth Adventures is the largest outdoor activity centre in Hardanger offering several daily activities like kayak paddling, white water jump, rock climbing, river kayaking, fun rafting, down hill mountain biking (groups). Guided walk along the salmonriver Eio and kayaking on the lake Eidfjordvatnet are offered from summer 2009.
