A brand new product was introduced this summer in Eidfjord, Hardangerfjord. As a pilot area for the Norwegian ports, Hardangerfjord tried out a concept involving demonstration of and tasting the local food and drink specialties. Hardanger is often called “the Orchard of Norway” and fruit farming dates as far back as to the 12th century when monks harvested the fruit. In addition, traditional farming, hunting and fishing has been going on for ages in this region.
Fred. Olsen Cruise line cooperated in this project, and by 3 calls to Eidfjord the passengers experienced the new shore excursion.
In Eidfjord the guests embark the ”Lady Anne”, cruising 1 hour on ”the Queen of Norwegian Fjords” to Ulvik. There buses await for a drive to Hardanger Juice and Cider Factory. Here in the restaurant they learn about production of high quality apple juice, cider and apple brandy. Local chefs also demonstrate 5 different dishes containing such delicacies as smoked salmon, lamb, fruit and berries. After the meal there is sightseeing in the factory. Return to Eidfjord by busses.
Fully booked tours and generally high scores this summer guarantee continued offers for all cruise lines from next season onwards.
