On June 11, 95,000gt MSC Poesia docked in Hafnarfjordur. At 300m long she is the largest vessel to have docked at the Icelandic port.
There are 12 further calls scheduled to visit this year as well as one from Astor which called June 21. Hence a total of 14 ships will visit this year compared to four in 2010.
Hafnarfjordur is the country’s third largest town with a population of about 25,000. It is situated in a lava field just 10 minutes from Reykjavik.
Children from local schools were on the quayside to welcome passengers and crew with music and drama performances but also to bid them farewell.
