On May 18 Le Havre welcomed Costa Atlantica to its newly reopened cruise terminal. Hall 1 situated at Pointe de Floride has been transformed into a cruise terminal meeting safety and security standards as well as having an interior upgrade.
The works took place between November 2009 and May this year during which time passengers were housed in a temporary space. The E1m investment came from the municipality of Le Havre, the department, the region and the state.
On May 19, the terminal was inaugurated with the double call of AIDAaura and Albatros.
This week Le Havre has six ships visiting bringing 11,000 passengers and 4,600 crew to the French port. On June 3 along, the arrival of Costa Deliziosa and Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas on an overnight account for 6,300 passengers and 2,450 crew.
In addition P&O Cruises’ Arcadia arrives on an inaugural call as does Holland America Line’s Prinsendam and Ocean Princess. AIDAaura is there today.
For 2010 passenger and call numbers are up by 25% says Valerie Dubuc, cruise director at the Tourism Office.
