In 2010 Stavanger is expecting 115 calls which is an impressive increase on the 50 calls recorded in 2005. Passenger numbers too have hit record levels at 190,000 compared to 40,066 five years ago.
It is not surprising therefore that a new berth is being prepared next to the new concert house for 2012. Along with those now in use, it is within a few minutes walk of the centre. For turnaround calls, Anders Bang-Anderssen, director of cruise development at the City of Stavanger, says the lobby areas of the concert house can be used for passengers.
Costa Cruises has the largest presence at the port with 16 calls in 2009 up from eight in 2008 and three in 2007. This year P&O Cruises’ newbuilding Azura will make a single call. There are no limitations to the size of ship calling Stavanger. Two large and one medium size vessel can be handled alongside at the same time.
