Vigo's E15m investment shows results

Vigo has invested E15m in its facilities which were completed last year, a year in which the Spanish port received 118 calls and more than 250,000 passengers. 
E3m was spent on improving and increasing the Trasatlantic Quay from 550m to 750m in order to accommodate two 300m-long ships at the same time. E0.5m in improving the The 8,744m2 cruise terminal received a E0.5m refurbishment and has been renamed Alberto Duran. This includes a cruise lounge on the first floor where passengers can learn about the city and also free wifi. In addition the access control and protection system has been updated and increased so that queues for embarkation are reduced.
About E3.5m has been spent on improvement of the central area linking the port with the city as well as E4.5m on improving the area around Comercio Quay. The quay has been increased to 253m at a cost of E1m which gives Vigo the possibility of berthing four large cruiseships at the same time, according to Lola Rois, commercial manager Port Authority of Vigo. Finally E2.5m has been spent on adapting ancient warehouses on the quay into a passenger terminal, El Tinglado del Puerto. Adjacent to the pier it houses different shops and a cafe.
