VIGO: SEPTEMBER SUMMER DESTINATION

Monday, September 1, 2014 - 09:13 by vigo

Year after year, September turns to be one of the most important periods regarding cruise traffic at the Port of Vigo. The major effort developed by the Vigo Port Authority during the last years to enlarge and improve the Port’s cruise facilities and services has helped not only to maintain Vigo as the Spanish Atlantic Port leader in terms of cruise passengers, but also as a Port of reference for the most important companies and ships. MSC, SeaCloud, Costa, SeaDream, Celebrity, WindStar, Fred Olsen, Royal Caribbean, P&O and Holland America will contribute this next month to highlight the significance, strength and reliability of the port with extraordinary figures: 19 calls, two of them triples and one double, will bring to the city more than 40,000 cruise passengers. Among them the incredible triple Italian junction of Costa Mediterranea meeting MSC Orchestra and MSC Opera and, of course, the first Oasis of the Seas’ visit to Vigo, a double call with Celebrity Infinity; excellent opportunities to prove the already tested professionalism of the Port’s agents and institutions as well as the hospitality and kindness of a city committed to its guests.

In the South Europe September is still real summer, and Vigo extends Beach Tourism period until the very end of the month. An understandable consequence of Vigo ranking the first in Spain with the most Blue Flag beaches (Spanish Independent Classification on beaches’ quality and excellence). Besides, Vigo’s geographical situation allows not only incredible awarded beaches, but also a great and varied offer of shore excursions: natural treasures like Cies Islands, the idyllic National Park guarding the entrance of its estuary; old medieval villages like Baiona or Combarro; the well-known local wineries with “Rias Baixas” white wine as one of their main appeals; the close north of Portugal and its charming border; or Santiago de Compostela, world heritage city and destination of worldwide pilgrimage. Moreover, for all the passengers that prefer not to book excursions and explore by themselves, the city will receive them from its very heart, with a lot of possibilities like shopping, visiting museums, enjoying the close and beautiful city beaches or trying the tasty local seafood, an essential element of the delicious and healthy Atlantic Diet.
