Trondheim is developing as a turnaround port with the return of Pullmantur next year. Last year the company’s Monarch made successful turnarounds using the new check-in Venue of Clarion Hotel & Congress. The hotel will be used again in 2018 together with the Pirsenter.

“Due to the renovation of the land strip at Vaernes there are no turnovers this year, but there will be seven in 2018 with Zenith,” explained Maria Kuhnl, cruise coordinator Trondheim Havn.

Next year AIDA Cruises has also chosen to overnight with four calls which gives passengers 25 hours in the city. A programme of new shore excursions is being worked on.

Off-season calls are also on the increase with nine this year including Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Watch overnight December 31. Next year there will be 10 such calls.

This year calls will total 58, increasing to 79 in 2018. There are plans build a bollard at 240m this year in order to further improve the mooring of the longer ships. In addition a roundabout for excursion buses at the main quay is in plan.

Finally Trondheim is going to introduce a discount for vessels with a valid ESI certificate in 2018.
