Torshavn is expecting 47 calls this year

Submitted by CE-Press on 12 April 2010 - 9:53am

Calls to Torshavn in the Faroe Islands in 2010 number 47 compared to 45 last year. Passenger numbers also remain steady at 31,800 compared to 30,258 in 2009, according to Mia Cameron, marketing Port of Torshavn.

First time visitors this year include Seabourn Sojourn, Iberocruceros’ Grand Mistral, TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff and Norwegian Sun.

Since the main traffic at the port is container and fishing vessels, there are no berths dedicated to cruise. However the main berthing pier has accommodated vessels up to 293m in length and 8m draught even though depths at the pier range from 5.8m to 8.8m.

Sheltered anchorage is also available with a short tender ride bringing passengers to a landing stage close to the town. There is an alternative harbour north of the town which the port only recommends if weather conditions are extremely poor as there are no passenger facilities available there.

For vessels alongside, there is a two minute shuttle bus ride to the ferry terminal and from there the local shopping centre usually provides free shuttle buses.
