Tilbury has applied to English Heritage to restore the Grade 2* listed landing stage and all the adjacent buildings. Once refurbished, the passenger handling infrastructure will be upgraded by operator Forth Ports, explains Lynda Viccars cruise and marine coordinator at the port.
The present London Cruise Terminal is able to handle about 1,200 passengers on turnaround calls but more on transit.
This year the UK port is expecting 38 calls and 26,000 passengers compared with 20 calls and 23,000 passengers in 2009. New to the port this year are Noble Caledonia’s Island Sky, Silversea Cruises’ Silver Cloud and Cruise & Maritime Voyages Marco Polo and Ocean Countess.
Tilbury Landing Stage is dedicated to cruiseships and can accommodate vessels up to 350 long and 9m draught. Full disposal or recycling of all waste is available within the port or by approved contractors.
The port is 22 miles from London and free shuttle buses are provided linking Tilbury Town station to the port between 0700 to 1900 six days a week.
