A Coruña has become one of the Atlantic’s most attractive destinations for cruise ships. A revamp of the seafront and area near the cruise terminal was accomplished last year. Now a new pedestrian promenade connects the Trasatlánticos Quay with the heart of the city and cruise passengers are just a stone’s throw away from the historic center and main tourist attractions.
In recent years, the cruise industry represents one of the Port of A Coruña’s strongest sectors and offers tremendous potential for future growth. In 2009, passenger numbers reached just over 50,000 but grew steadily to hit a record 157,000 passengers who visited during a total of 108 cruise calls in 2013. Numbers have since remained stable and forecasts for 2017 are again remarkable with an estimate of 120 calls and 170.000 passengers, making it the leader on the Cantabrian-Atlantic seaboard.
2016 was also a good cruise year at the Port of A Coruña. The season ended last 27th december with "Queen Elizabeth", the last of 95 total calls.
