Oslo Pass app is a world first as Kon-Tiki centenary celebrated

VisitOslo has launched the Oslo Pass app which can be downloaded free of charge and which allows the purchase of a 24-, 48- or 72-hour pass. It was developed in cooperation with the museums, attractions and public transport company Ruter.

The Oslo Pass app requires internet access every morning in order to download the day's QR-code and animation, and works off line the rest of the day. When entering a museum the QR code is scanned. When using public transport, no scanning is necessary except in case of a ticket control.

Visitors to the Norwegian capital this year may want to visit the Kon-Tiki Museum which is celebrating the centenary of Thor Heyerdahl with a new exhibition. It is also offering a touring exhibition accompanied with lectures and films in Norway and abroad. Earlier this year it was offered on Hurtigruten’s Trollfjord sailing between Bergen and Kirkenes for six weeks.

Thor Heyerdahl gained worldwide fame when he crossed the Pacific Ocean on Kon-Tiki in 1947. He followed this up with expeditions on the reed boats Ra and Tigris. His recreations of prehistoric voyages showed that early man had mastered sailing before the saddle and wheel were invented.

Heyerdahl’s archives at the Kon-Tiki Museum have now been included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register. A film about the Kon-Tiki expedition won the Oscar for best documentary and the book has been translated into 72 languages.

*At the Port of Oslo, Anette Braekke is now heading up the restructured marketing department while Margrethe Austad has left to pursue new opportunities. We wish them both well.
