Olden-Nordfjord in Norway had a record year in 2009 with 74 calls and 74,507 passengers, an increase of 28% on 2008. This year there are less calls, at 61, but the ships are bigger. New visitors to the port this year include Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2, new deliveries Seabourn Sojourn and P&O Cruises’ Azura.
A new pier is under consideration with the hope to start building in the second quarter 2010, according to Bjorg Naess port of Olden-Nordfjord/Geiranger & Nordfjord Cruise Handling. He says there are three different options being discussed for the pier which will be able to accommodate cruiseships of 350m in length and 12m depth. It is only 350m from the existing pier and within walking distance of Olden village.
There are plans for an information kiosk and toilet facilities in the short-term but with further development a possibility in the future. The total investment will be between NKr20m (E2.5m) and NKr35m (E4.4m) depending on the solution.
Completion is expected in time for the 2011 season.
