Oceania Cruises called at Lorient for the first time this year with both Insignia and Regatta. Seabourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Sojourn was also a newcomer to the French port.
This year saw 19 calls and 3,000 passengers compared with 14 calls and 2,500 passengers in 2009. Usually the port in Brittany handles about 700 passengers at one time.
Estimated call numbers for 2011 are four in Lorient and four in Belle Ile.
There is one quay giving priority to cruiseships which has a length of 150m and a depth of 7.5m. Fabienne Legendre of Bretagne Tours & Services Maritimes explains that a ship of 240m in length can however be accommodated.
The quay is 15 minutes walk from the city centre but shuttle buses could be arranged if required through Bretagne Tours.
Anchorage is also availabe in Belle-Ile or the bay of Lorient.
