The formal handover of Port of Roenne’s new facilities from the contractor to developer took place on October 4. However the port marked the end of construction, together with about 5,000 local citizens and stakeholders, during a grand party on June 8.

“Our announcements that we have got larger quays, better manoeuvring space and a water depth of 11m and, of course, a truly unique and attractive holiday island seems to be having a quite positive effect on the market. Currently, the number of advance bookings for 2020 is 52 calls and approximately 45,000 cruise guests,” said Thomas Bendtsen, ceo Port of Roenne.

This compares with 46 calls and 19,725 passengers this year and 26 calls and 12,441 passengers in 2017. These numbers demonstrate how interest in this rocky island in the Baltic Sea has increased: “The cruise season 2019 ends at about the same level as 2018. We are really pleased with that, considering that this year we have received cruise guests at a time where the port construction was not yet finished,” commented Bendtsen.

The port can receive cruise vessels up to 350m in length.
