Germany’s most popular destination among international cruise operators and passengers
The Warnemünde cruise port is headed for a new passenger record this year. With 113 registered port calls by 33 cruise ships, well over 350,000 passengers are awaited for turnarounds or excursions on land. 26 cruise operators have planned to send their ships with around 200,000 passengers from around the world to Rostock’s Baltic Sea coastal resort. Warnemünde is once again the most popular destination in Germany for international cruise tourists and cruise operators.
This year’s cruise season is scheduled to begin on 05 May with the arrival of the 252-meter-long AIDAblu, the newest addition to the Rostock-based AIDA Cruises’ fleet. The departure of Boudicca of the English cruise operator Fred Olson marks the end of the cruise season on 16 September.
In addition to AIDAblu, seven other ships are calling Warnemünde for the first time in this year’s cruise season: Celebrity Eclipse – at 315 meters in length and a gross tonnage of 122,000, the largest ship that has ever come to port in Rostock – Norwegian Sun, MSC Opera, Costa Atlantica, Grand Mistral, Disney Magic, and Seabourn Sojourn.
The ships arriving most frequently in Warnemünde are Costa Atlantica (15 times), AIDAblu (13 times), and Norwegian Sun (11 times). The new club ship AIDAblu is using Warnemünde as its home port to start and end its Baltic Sea cruises. Costa Atlantica, Norwegian Sun, MSC Opera, and Sea Cloud II are all carrying out partial passenger turnarounds in Warnemünde. All in all, 44 port calls will involve passengers either beginning or ending their cruise in Warnemünde.
This year’s highlights will include two quadruple port calls on 07 June and 10 July, as well as four triple port calls on 11 June, 19 July, 06 and 23 August.
