Hundested will receive its first cruise call next year when Saga Pearl II calls on May 18. A Viking welcome will greet passengers at the quayside.

The Danish port is just 2nm from the pilot station. There is a pier of 350m which can accommodate ships of 230m in length and 8m draught. The height of the quayside is 2.5m and there are rubber fenders.

Anchorage is also possible just 500m from the pier with a depth of 8.2m but there is no tender jetty. Tugs, waste handling, bunkering and provisioning are all available. There is a tourist information office at the quay as well as restrooms nearby. Parking is available for buses and taxis and public transport and a shuttle service are close by.

From being a busy ferry port, Hundested is now more focused on tourism. A few years ago the locals invested in creating their own restaurant brewery at the harbour just 300m from the pier. Small workshops, craftsmen and galleries are also on site and there is an annual sand sculpture festival from May to October as well as an art craft market in June.

This is a walker-friendly town for both independent passengers and those wanting a tour which takes in Greenland explorer Knud Rasmussen’s house and the House of Fishing and Harbour.

Passengers can choose from tours such as the Viking sea route through the small Roskilde Fjord, Unesco world heritage Roskilde Cathedral, the Viking Ship Museum, Hamlet’s castle Kronborg or further afield Copenhagen which is just 75 minutes by bus.
