This year and next see eight transit calls to Fredericia although passenger numbers differ with 11,400 expected this year and 7,200 next, according to Line Tange, cruise manager Cruise Fredericia.

Newcomers to the port are Holland America Line with Prinsendam, Silversea Cruises with Silver Cloud, TUI with Thomson Celebration. Celebrity Cruises returns but with Celebrity Eclipse for the first time.

There is a dedicated cruise quay, 1-3, which has a length of 350m and a depth of 12m with no airdraught restrictions. A container is being used as a tourist information kiosk. Free WiFi and toilets are available in the city centre which is 0.5km away. The shuttle train costs E3.00.

Alongside mooring is also on hand at the container quay if necessary.

Anchorage is available with a depth of 15m and 5nm from the tender pier. There are no shore tenders available but ship’s tenders are permissible. There are no turning restrictions in the harbour and the port is navigable day and night.

Bunkering, fresh water, garbage disposal and provisioning are all available. The port is fully ISPS compliant and shoreside security personnel can be hired on a per hour basis.

There is plenty to see and do in Fredericia itself including the town museum, Madsby Legepark with go-karting track and Ostre Strand beach. The region, within 50km, receives three million tourists a year to attractions such as Legoland where the first lego block was invented.

Others include Unesco sites - Royal Jelling, part of Denmark’s largest Viking complex, The Wadden Sea national park and the Hans Christian Andersen Museum including his childhood home - as well as Egeskov Castle built in 1554 and Trapholt, museum of modern art & design.

The nearest airport is 45 minutes’ away.
