On October 11 the Columbus Cruise Center Wismar (CCCW) and official partner, the Hanse Sektkellerei Wismar, played host to a musical fireworks display to mark the departure of the season's final cruise vessel.

Together with the City of Wismar, CCCW can look back on a total of 11 calls between June and September. Michael Kremp, managing director CCCW, explained that "the finale to this more than satisfactory season" began with the arrival of 176.3m-long Marco Polo which was built at the Mathias-Thesen yard in Wismar in the 1960s.

The arrival of the Cruise & Maritime Voyages' vessel brought the total number of passengers and crew members who have visited the city this year to 14,000 and 6,500 respectively. In contrast, only two vessels called at Wismar the previous year.

Locals and tourists alike were invited to the old port area to say farewell to the former Alexander Pushkin as she departed at 2000 accompanied by a spectacular musical fireworks display.
