Milford Haven is delighted to be welcoming not one but two Saga ships on the same day, August 2. This is the first two-ship day for the port which only began actively targeting the cruise industry four years ago. It is also the first Welsh port to handle two ships on the same day.
Saga Cruises’ “repeat visits show that operationally we are delivering both what the company and the passengers want,” commented Mike Ashworth, port manager Milford Haven Port Authority (MHPA).
On August 2 Saga Ruby will be at anchor on Milford Shelf and Spirit of Adventure will berth at Pembroke Port.
As part of MHPA’s commitment to ensuring high levels of health and safety, the port will be assisting in a planned fire excercise on Spirit of Adventure which will be coordinated by mid and west Wales fire and rescue service.
Another first, and by no means less important, is the first overnight call. Hebridean Island Cruises’ Hebridean Princess will be in port September 18 and 19.
The season began on May 3 with Voyages of Discovery’s Discovery and ends on September 27 with the seventh call of the season from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Watch. This will be a second call for the company which brings Boudicca in on September 6.
The first cruiseship call to Milford Haven came from Cunard Line’s Vistafjord in 1990. From then until 2004 calls were infrequent. Between 2004 and 2006 the port began the process of becoming involved.
