Oceania Cruises’ Insignia made her first full turnaround call in London this summer at Greenwich Ship Tier. With the help of Greenwich Council, a temporary terminal was constructed within the Greenwich Royal Naval Trust Palace Gardens to accommodate the 1,252 passengers processing through the port.
In June The World visited between the 4th and 8th with crew, embark, debark and visitor movements numbering 1,928 persons.
In both cases the floating pontoon provided restricted access alongside the vessels.
Tower Bridge Upper HMS Belfast continues to be used for the smaller vessels such as Silversea Cruises’ Silver Wind.
For 2012 London has 10 calls booked which does not include those vessels being used as accommodation for the Olympic Games. Errol Cox of London Central Cruise Moorings (LCCM), says: “Later this year we are expecting further bookings. While still under negotiation we are also hoping to place vessels in the Royal Docks for the Olympic period.”
Next year Greenwich Council is expected to host the 2012 Cruise Europe annual general meeting with LCCM, as Cruise Europe members, assisting with arrangements and services.
