Lisbon interporting up by 173%

Interporting calls to Lisbon this year have risen 173% (from 11 to 30) and turnarounds 50% from 32 to 48 for the nine months to September 2013 compared with the same period last year. Interporting is mostly due to MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises. When it comes to passengers, the port has recorded a growth of 8% with 374,216 visiting compared with 345,238 in the same period.

The growth was due to an increase of 8% in transit passengers to 340,706 and 9% in turnarounds to 33,510. November was the best yet recording the highest number of calls and passengers in one month at 42 and 64,000 respectively. With this in mind Lisbon looks set for a record year. New Year’s Eve is a popular time to the be in the Portuguese capital. Taking place on the waterfront of the river Tagus are concerts featuring famous artists as well as street entertainment and fireworks.

Exhibitions on offer in the first quarter 2014 are Rubens, Brueghel and Lorraine from El Prado at the Portuguese Ancient Art National Museum and fashion designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista at the Design and Fashion Museum.
